Editorial standards

What Sportsback will and will not publish, and how automated reporting is held to it.

Sourcing

A story is published only when it is supported by more than one credible source, or by an official source such as a club, league or governing body. The sources used are listed on the story.

We do not publish anonymous-source claims that we cannot corroborate, and we do not repeat specific figures — transfer fees, contract terms, salaries — unless they have been confirmed by a party to the deal.

What we never invent

Sportsback does not fabricate quotes, injuries, medical diagnoses, suspensions, contract terms, statistics or rankings. If we do not know something, we say it is unknown or we leave it out.

Every story distinguishes between what is confirmed, what is reported, what is expected and what is analysis.

Statistics

Statistics come from data providers and are attributed to their source. We do not calculate proprietary ratings and we do not present estimates as measurements. Player and team cards show real published statistics, never invented attribute scores.

Images

Every image carries source and licensing information, and an image is not displayed unless its rights permit it. We do not generate synthetic photographs of real events or real people for news coverage. Where no licensed photograph is available, we use our own graphics instead.
