Formula One cars are not built for rail infrastructure or enclosed tunnel spaces. Even a short promotional run on a live metro network demands planning that a closed road would not require, and getting a grand prix machine underground carries obvious logistical challenges. The Madrid Metro is a working system, so the event appears to have required close coordination between the team and transport officials; none of that coordination has been described publicly.

Publicity runs in F1 are usually associated with roads closed for the occasion or with circuits. A metro line is a much rarer setting, which gives this stunt an unusual visual hook. The car chosen for the run, the RB8, was described as iconic, and the contrast between a grand prix machine and a public transport environment is the central image of the event.

The value of such an event is largely promotional. It keeps the team visible beyond race weekends and gives fans a novel setting in which to see one of its cars.
